A Daily Drink for the Daily Grind
There’s nothing quite like a daily drink to accompany the daily grind. It doesn’t matter if you’re working from home, a grind is a grind, and we’re sure you’re in the thick of it. The last thing anyone wants to do after a long day at the (home) office is play bartender. So do yourself a favor and don’t.
To help, we’ve crafted the perfect drink that takes over bartending duties and does the work for you. That’s where we got the name, actually. Think of it as a hand-off at 5 pm; the grind really doesn’t stop—the drink just takes over for you. And yes, it works as hard as you do all day (if not harder, TBH).
Turn off the monitor, put on your sweats, and treat yourself to a drink. You deserve it. This Mezcal Mule recipe is easy, delicious, and the only beverage you need after a long day.
How Will Mezcal Change the Taste?
Great question. You’ve heard of a Moscow Mule, maybe a Kentucky Mule—so what special something does a Mezcal Mule bring to the table?
Mezcal isn’t like other liquors. It’s unique (and no, we’re not just saying that). It’s a bit of a complex spirit, in all the right ways. It has smokiness , sweetness, and all types of notes that will leave you wanting more. It’s almost as though each sip has the power to tap into a different mood you’re feeling or taste a little different depending on how it lands on your tongue. Like we always say, it’s the Mezcal Magic.
For a Mezcal with only three ingredients - agave, water, and lots of love - Rosaluna provides a uniquely deep and developed flavor experience. (We’re purposely saying experience because it truly is one—it’s so much more than just a taste profile).
Three ingredients, three perfect taste profiles, one out-of-this-world experience.
Earthy Agave. Roasted agave hearts and their delicious caramel notes lead the way, while spices like ginger and cinnamon are woven throughout. (Hmm, ginger? Sounds perfect for a Mule…)
Complex Aroma. With notes of citrus, tropical fruits, pineapple, and pear, Rosaluna provides bright notes that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Smooth Finish. Leading with a hint of agave smoke, Rosaluna finishes with a subtle layer of sweet fruit and baking spice.
Everything You’ll Need
The beauty of this cocktail recipe is that it’s simple and easy—just like Mezcal Rosaluna. You probably have all of the ingredients in your fridge already, so yes—skip the grocery store. Remember, this drink is an after-work treat. It isn’t supposed to be more work.
You’ll need:
- 1.5 oz Mezcal Rosaluna
- 0.5 oz Lime juice
- 4 oz Thomas Henry Ginger Beer
- Garnish: Lime shell and candied ginger
1. Mix Things Up
It’s time to mix things up. With this recipe, a chilled mule mug will do the best job of showcasing your soon-to-be masterpiece. If you don’t already have one, we highly suggest investing in one. Because trust us, after you try this Mezcal mule, you’re going to be wanting more. Perhaps even daily, if you will. (See what we did there?)
Ok. In all seriousness: grab your chilled (and hopefully mule) mug, and let’s get mixing.
The first thing you’re going to want to do is to crack open that ginger beer. Wait, pause—really enjoy and bask in that crisp, satisfying “TSSCHTT” sound as you open it. It’s the little things, or sounds, in life that make moments memorable. But we digress: go ahead and pour about 4 oz of your ginger beer into the mug. Cool, let’s carry on.
Next, you’re going to grab the lime and squeeze yourself about a 0.5 oz worth right into the mug. Lime brings an acidic, vinegary sparkle to everything it touches, so if you like sparkle, go ahead and squeeze in a bit more. Just be sure to do so a little bit at a time—too much lime will create an overly bitter and overly sour taste. No bueno.
Finally, the Magical part: let’s add some liquor! Measure out 1.5 oz of your favorite spirit (Mezcal Rosaluna, duh). If your day was a real grind, feel free to jack it up to 2 or 3 oz—we’re not judging. But of course, always know your limit and play within it.
Ok, your chilled mug should be just about full by now. The only thing left to do is add fresh ice cubes to your heart’s content.
2. Top It Off
Toppings are always the best part. Salad toppings, toast toppings, pizza toppings, you name it—they’re just so good.
Except, one does not top off a cocktail with toppings, per se. One garnishes their beverage.
Lime shells and candied ginger serve as the perfect tasteful decor that doesn’t require too much effort. So perfectly place those babies on top, and voila—you’ve ~garnished~.
3. Best Served Ice Cold
Remember when we suggested investing in a mule mug? Other than the fact that it looks cool (and makes you feel cool), there’s actually some scientific benefit to it too.
Mule mugs are copper mugs. Copper is a superior thermal conductor; it has properties that give chilled drinks an extra chilled sensation. The mug must be made of solid copper in order for it to respond to and take on the temperature of the liquid inside it.
Mule-fanatics even go as far as saying that the copper mug is suitable for chemical ionization of the citrus element of the drink, AKA the lime. This acid ionization that is encouraged by the solid copper is what enhances the flavors and makes the spicy ginger beer spicier and the citrus lime more citrusy.
One last note about the copper mug: it affects the taste too. Yep, that’s right. The friend who is a stickler for the copper mug isn’t being a complete stickler—there’s logic to it. Copper also seemingly intensifies the fizziness of carbonation from the ginger beer.
So, in conclusion, that’s a lot of science talk for: a proper copper mule mug will keep your drink cold, enhance the flavors, and hold onto the fizziness of the drink. Sounds like a no-brainer to us.
